UPDATE: Rufus needs a very special home. He's got some issues that require an owner who will have the patience necessary to see beyond his flaws and love the sweet little guy he truly is. He is very protective of his space with everyone but his person. In other words, his foster mom can do just about anything with Rufus and all she gets from him are kisses and cuddles. But if a stranger approaches his crate - he will growl and snap. He is the same way with strange dogs. He is fine with other dogs outside his crate - actually he loves them, but when he's in his crate, he protects his area from strange dogs. Rufus needs a home with someone who will NOT crate him and who will give him the time he needs to get used to his surroundings and his house mates. An ideal home for him would be with a retired person or persons (no small children please) and no other pets or maybe one other small female dog who will give him time to make friends.
Rufus got a make over! And he was a VERY GOOD BOY at the groomer! They just loved him!
When Rufus came to us a month ago he was very afraid. Well who wouldn't be? He spent his whole life with someone who took him for a ride one day - straight to the pound. I'm sure Rufus was thrilled to go bye bye, (he likes to go on his leash and rides well in the car) but little did he know his whole world was about to be turned upside down. When he came to us, he was afraid of everyone, he didn't want to be around other dogs, he just wanted to hide in his crate. Well, after only a month, Rufus is a new man! He shares his toys very nicely now with the other dogs in his foster home. Rufus is eager to please his foster mom - always comes when she calls him, get's in his crate when he's told and is just an all around sweetheart! He's crate trained and darn near house broken (as long as he's taken out regularly). For the times he can't go out regularly, he is trained to potty pads. Rufus is a mellow fellow who doesn't make much noise and would be fine in an apartment or townhome. Even though he's 7 to 8 years old, he still enjoys playing with his toys (especially the ones that squeak!) and a good game of tug is one of his favorite activities. If you are a pekingnese lover you MUST meet Rufus. One kiss from him, and your heart will melt.
Rufus is a beautiful white and tan Pekingese who was surrended to a shelter because his owners no longer wanted him. We're not sure why, because besides being beautiful, Rufus is crate trained and appears to be house broken. He should be an only pet though, as he doesn't like to share his toys or food with other animals. He needs to go to a home with an peke-experienced owner and no small children please.
