UPDATE: 8/11/10 - Kenzie is on the mend! She had her surgery today and came through it very well. She will need to go back for a re-check and removal of her stitches in two weeks and then, we hope, she will be available for adoption! Please consider giving this most deserving puppy a loving home.
UPDATE: Kenzie is scheduled for femoral head removal surgery on 8/11. Please keep checking our site to read about Kenzie's progress and please consider donating to her surgery and recovery! Every little bit helps! Thank you.
Kenzie arrived at her foster home and was taken to our vet to check out that leg. Sadly, it's more serious than we thought and Kenzie is going to need major surgery to repair it. She has a dislocated hip and broken femoral head at the growth plate - which means that without surgery her leg will not grow properly, she'll be lame and in pain. We're currently keeping Kenzie comfortable and getting estimates and opinions for the best possible course. PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO KENZIE'S CARE BY USING OUR PAYPAL ICON. Your donation is tax deductible and even $5 or $10 helps her! Thank you!
Kenzie is the littlest of our litter of cattle dog pups. She came to the shelter with a sore back leg - but is doing much better now. She is a darling little girl who already shows signs of being a very devoted doggie!! She follows her foster mom around wanting her attention! Cattle Dogs/Blue Heelers are wonderful dogs, but like all the herding breeds, require an owner who is willing provide consistent training. Much like the more familiar German Shepherd Dog, they are loyal, loving, smart and protective of their home and families. These pups' mom is a purebred heeler, so while daddy is unknown (the shelter thinks a Beagle), we can make a fairly accurate guess that they will have at least some heeler characteristics so please research the breed before applying.
